ABOUT THE SONG
The lyrical self experiences the breaking power of love and the sadness after the breakup, drawn with the help of visions and metaphors. A fleeing bird appears in the text, projecting the image of a breakup, and the feeling of loneliness emerges from drinking cider. Using Native American motifs and natural images, the author depicts pain and loss. The expressions knocking at home and shattered heaven are meant to represent the sense of absence and the empty world. The wraith appearing at the end of the poem and the angel-winged snake charmer dropping the flute represent the author’s internal struggle and the difficulties of facing it.
