Songwriters in 7 countries have responded to POLYGLOT’s call in the hope of sending their songs on an international journey. The call is open until July 31, there’s still time to apply.

Songwriters in 7 countries have responded to POLYGLOT’s call in the hope of sending their songs on an international journey. The vast majority of the 300+ contestants sent in so far come from the project’s country of origin, Hungary. There are 6 weeks still to enter songs written in the original language of the project’s seven countries, after which they will be selected and potentially adapted to become chart toppers in their new home.

POLYGLOT, the European Song Exchange Incubator, is looking for the next hit song written in the languages of any of the project’s 7 partner countries. Entries from Catalonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Ukraine will join a database and may start a new career in the other countries. Songwriters who have an extended lifespan and new opportunities in mind for their compositions may meet their luck within the project’s framework.

A month into the open call, Hungary, the creative nest of POLYGLOT has seen the most applicants. While tone and style vary across countries, the theme of love is omnipresent, with Catalonian and Latvian entries veering towards heartbreak; Portuguese and Hungarian songwriters touching on politics; Ukrainian composers preoccupied with war.  

The call is open until July 31, after which 70  songs (10 per country) will be selected, and each partner may choose 30 from these. In POLYGLOT’s unique experiment, the chosen songs will start a new life with a new language and performer, and partners’ efforts to bring them to the top of the charts.
